Why, you may ask yourself, is Generation traveling in time and adopting the music and styles of their parents? Is it simply intrigue? Maybe kids are just getting bored with the new styles and music lhal seem to look and sound the same. "1 think I can relate better to the lyrics of the oldies. I like them because they are happy songs," says Brooke Flesh-man, a junior at Dutton High School. These "happy" songs do seem to lighten the mood and breathe summer into your life. The cool thing about the '60s and '70s was the variety.

In clothing, anything went. Your own style was cool, whether it was bell bottoms, straight jeans, baby tees or halter dresses. I think kids today want that same freedom. The era exudes a carefree attitude of being your own person. Some people might also be searching for a bridge to our parents' generation. When I look at old photos of my mom in hip-huggers, tube tops and flip-flops, the same things I shop for, 1 feel closer to her. My dad and I can actually relate to each other when he walks into my room to ask if he can borrow my Doors CD. In a way, the music also serves as a really groovy history book.

The musical influences that artists like The Doors, Beatles and Janis Joplin have is immense and immeasurable. The music we know now would not exist if these artists had not chosen to "break on through" and do their own thing.
